17 May

At last the summer is at our doorstep, what better time to start looking for swimming shorts. And since it’s the only thing you’re wearing besides flip-flops, I think you’ll agree these have to be top notch. How about these retro looking ones by Saturdays, called the Thomas Board Shorts. Simple yet stylish, not too long or too short, a handy pocket on the back (don’t put your phone in it). What’s not to like?

Game characters come to life

13 May

video-game-photography-8

This should be a fun one for the old school gamers. Designer and Illustrator Aled Lewis created a photo series where video game characters from back in the day are integrated in real life surroundings, giving you the idea that they have a life outside of the game. I think I’m not even old enough to recognize all of them, but I did enjoy browsing through.

The world on your feet . .

6 May

By now most people in the know are either wearing desert boots, derbies (preferably suede) or wingtips, for the even fancier folk. This of course is totally acceptable, but how to stand out once the secret is out?

For instance these desert boots created by Supreme and Clarks, who have teamed up a couple of times already. The upper consists of nubuck suede and has an old looking map printed on, which gives them quite an authentic look. They will be available online in three different colorways from the 9th of may.

Thundercat – ‘Heartbreaks + Setbacks’

17 Apr

thundercat-A

It doesn’t get much fresher than this, Thundercat’s ‘Heartbreaks + Setbacks’ was uploaded to Youtube 8 hours ago. It’s the first single of the upcoming album ‘Apocalypse’ and I find the track very easy to listen too. It reminds me of something Bonobo could have created, but is in fact co-produced and co-written by Flying Lotus.

The man behind Thundercat is Stephen Bruner, a great bass player and vocalist who has played with artists like Erykah Badu and Snoop Dogg. The LA based musician has been flying solo since 2011 and quite succesfully.

Exclusive Flyknits

11 Apr

This week Nike will be releasing two limited editions of the Flyknit series and to be honest they look pretty fly. The models that are being released are the Flyknit Racer and the HTM Flyknit Trainer+, the latter being part of a collection that shows some of Nike’s most innovative designs. In looks I would prefer the Racer because of the fresher color pattern of the upper, but since I’m not in fact a racer I’ll exclude myself from the competition.

Unlike Nike’s other Flyknit models, these two are made of multi-colored yarn, which definitely  gives a limited feel to them. The pairs will only be available at Nike Stadium Milano from the 12th of April and at 1948 London from the 13th. Happy hunting.

2 Guns = Marky Mark and Denzel

2 Apr

2guns

When I heard Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington were doing a movie called ‘2 Guns’, I have to admit I was already sold. Having seen the trailer, I’m even more psyched about seeing it. In the film Mark and Denzel are teamed up while they are both working undercover without each others knowledge. I don’t have the impression that ‘2 Guns’ has an extremely compelling storyline, however I am convinced that it will be a very entertaining film with a lot of action and a few giggles. Unfortunately it doesn’t come out until August, so enjoy the trailer and be patient people.

For their 50th anniversary the Japanese luggage brand, Porter by Yoshida Kaban, collaborated with Oliver Peoples to create a limited-edition pair of sunglasses. Oliver Peoples is based in LA and they have been making unique eyewear since 1986. From that time on their sunnies where seen on a regular basis in all the big fashion magazines up until today.

This folding design comes with CR-39 lenses and will be available in five different color ways. They will be in-store in April at the Oliver Peoples boutique shops and a few other select stores.

Fresh from scratch

26 Mar

Shlohmo ft Jeremih

The collaboration between Yours Truly an Adidas Originals is called ‘Songs From Scratch’ and that’s exactly what it is. They bring together cool new artists to create a track together and in this case those are Shlohmo and Jeremih. Shlohmo had already remixed the track ‘Fuck You All The Time’ by Jeremih and that didn’t go unnoticed, so they got another chance to collaborate. This brought us the fresh track ‘Bo Peep (Do U Right)’ which fits right in with the ongoing stream of a more electronic sounding R&B shaped by drum machines and synthesizers.

Easter sneakers !

21 Mar

Easter brings us not just bunnies and eggs, but apparently also fresh pairs of sneakers. Witness the pairs Nike is dropping for this jolly holiday. First off the ‘SB Koston QS Easter’, a noticeable shoe mainly because of it’s suede pink pastel upper, which makes it very springy summery footwear. I’ve found the SB line from Nike to be very comfortable and I expect that these will be consistent in that matter. These unfortunately very limited sneakers are not available anywhere near you, unless you live in NYC.

Next is the ‘Air Max Light Easter’, which is brought to you by Nike and Size?, a retailer  based in the UK. Both pairs from the Easter pack have uppers of grey suede and white mesh and where one pair is complemented by dark and light blue accents the other is by dark and light purple. The blue pair comes of a little fresher and lighter, but that could just be the pictures. They will be available online and in-store starting tomorrow.

Ready, set? Go!

This music video for Biting Elbows is quite the ride and not for the fainthearted. The fast paced song called ‘Bad Motherf#cker’ apparently needed a matching clip to go along with it, which Ilya Naishuller and Sergey Valyaev provided. In a 007 type setting, things go from ‘Holy shit!’ to ‘What the hell’ in mere seconds making you forget that this actually a music clip. The video is shot entirely from the point of the viewer, making sure you get sucked in and can’t stop watching.
